This short programme is designed to give learners an awareness of the implications of using drugs and substances. It will provide underpinning knowledge to identify the signs and symptoms of substance misuse and the steps that can be taken to overcome this. The course gives learners an introduction to the implications of misusing a range of common drugs and substances, both legal and illegal, and deals with the many myths surrounding their use.

This course will raises awareness of the risks of drugs and alcohol abuse and effects they may have.
- Develop knowledge of commonly used drugs and substances and be able to regognise the signs of use
- Develop knowledge of the effects that drugs substances can have on individuals and how this can impact on performance
- Increase the learner's confidence to address drug and substance misuse in an appropriate manner
- Dispel hearsay and myths surrounding drugs and substances
- Develop awareness of the classification of drugs and substances
- Develop awareness of responsibilities towards health and safety
- Gain understanding of how social and other factors can have an impact on use and misuse of drugs and substances
